Krieg Eterna

Redemption

Type: Hex Power

Effect Text: Return your King to your hand if and only if it is on the field.

Flavor Text: "Remember me, when you come into your kingdom."

Flavor Source: Luke 23:42

Artwork: The Crowning with Thorns by Caravaggio (1602)

Strategy:

Redemption can be used to bluff by playing your King, then returning it to your hand. An added benefit is that you can use your King’s unique powers twice (once each time your King is played). Remember, the card is worded so that you can’t reobtain your King if it is already in the graveyard.

About the card:

Painted by the great Italian painter Caravaggio, the painting depicts the moment when Christ, having been interrogated by Pontius Pilate, is crowned with thorns and derided as the “King of the Jews.” Caravaggio’s distinctive painting style is shown here, with the use of foreshortening, the extreme light source and incision to outline the contours of the painting.

The flavor text is from Luke 23:42, King James Bible. Words of the second thief crucified with Christ.
